Environmental Commitment

We affirm the importance of protecting the environment and making wise use of our natural resources. We will set and achieve environmental goals that are in concert with other goals needed to further the well-being of society.

Mississippi Power fosters the health of the environment in numerous ways including the recycling of materials used in the business, office products, Christmas trees, and by employees' voluntary participation in environmental education and community and beach clean-up efforts.

Safeguarding the Environment

Mississippi Power is committed to safeguarding the environment and managing associated expenses in a cost-effective way.

The PSC approved Mississippi Power's ECO Plan in 1992. The plan establishes procedures to facilitate the PSC's overview of the company's environmental strategy and provides recovery of costs associated with environmental projects.

Under the ECO Plan, any increase in the annual revenue requirement is limited to 2 percent of retail revenues, but the plan also provides for a carryover provision for any amount over the 2 percent limit into the next year's revenue requirement for compliance measures.
